Tyler McCafferty

Senior Grant Writer
Hometown: Baltimore, MD

Tyler has a passion for the environment, a love of education, and an enthusiasm for social justice projects. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to serve an array of nonprofits that both align with her established interests and expose her to new ones. Before joining the Elevate team, Tyler taught English in Malaysia through the Fulbright Scholarship Program. In addition to teaching 16 classes, she engaged her students by planning and hosting confidence building camps, cooking lessons, and beach cleanups. Some of the most rewarding time with her students, however, was spent taking selfies at the beach and gossiping over fried chicken. Tyler was first exposed to the nonprofit world through positions at Clean Water Action and Chesapeake Stormwater Network. With these organizations, she was able to utilize her love of the environment to fundraise, aid in the preparation of grant proposals, and facilitate communication between professionals in different sectors.

Tyler enjoys volunteering at stream cleanups and tutoring students in Baltimore. She earned a BA in Cultural Anthropology and a BA in Environmental Studies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County where she was a Humanities Scholar and a member of the Honors College. During her sophomore year, Tyler took advantage of an opportunity to study at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. This experience gave her a new perspective on what it means to be an American and inspired a lifelong love of traveling.

When Tyler is not in the office, she can be found experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, belting Britney Spears throwbacks, or muddying her shoes on a new hiking trail.

What is your hidden talent?

I'm oddly skilled at rearranging items so they fit neatly in a confined space. I'm always the one who's recruited to pack the car for a road trip!

What is your grammatical pet peeve?

I take it personally when people don't use the Oxford Comma.

What is your favorite way to spend a Sunday afternoon?

My ideal Sunday afternoon includes fitting in a hike with friends before watching a Ravens game with a big bowl of buffalo chicken dip in my lap.
